About Devon

I am a fifth-year student at Carleton University and a well-accomplished individual with a background in Journalism and English. As a Journalism and English major, I have acquired a strong foundation in writing, research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. My experience as a journalist is evidence of my ability to communicate effectively. By publishing news articles, I have demonstrated a proficiency in conveying information and engaging with a wider audience. This experience has involved conducting thorough research, interviewing sources, and writing in a clear and concise manner. Additionally, hosting a radio show further highlights my skill in communication. Broadcasting requires a strong understanding of language, an ability to engage listeners, and the talent to present information with engagement.

About the lesson

As an English tutor, my approach is founded on the principle of needed communication. I prioritize teaching students essential English language skills and knowledge for effective and meaningful communication in academic situations. Here's how my approach aligns with this principle: 1. Identifying specific communication needs: I begin by understanding the specific needs of my students. By identifying their needs, I can tailor my teaching approach accordingly. 2. Integrating language skills in context: Effective communication involves the integration of various language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I design lessons that incorporate opportunities for your students to practice and develop these skills simultaneously. For instance, I may engage them in conversations, have them explain their thesis to me in their own words, or recite essays they've written out loud. 3: Providing feedback and correction: As part of my approach, I provide constructive feedback, correction, and encouragement to help students improve their language skills. When their goals are met, we repeat this process within the context of their next ambitions.
