About JIA YUN
Hello, my name is Jia-yun and I'm from Taiwan! I can speak five languages: Mandarin, English, Spanish, Taiwanese, and Hakka. I am currently a Fulbrighter as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant and teach Chinese at a university in North Carolina, US. I love the beauty and diversity of the languages and truly believe in the power of languages. Learning a new language is like deciphering a secret code. Once you understand the logic and the usage of the language, you get to enter their world. It's like you have the key to a magic box, when you unlock the box, you get to see a whole different world from a whole new perspective. Languages are just amazing! They are not only beautiful but also full of history. I will never stop learning languages. I am now working on French!
As for my interests and hobbies, I am really into hiking and yoga. I love being in nature. I've played piano for more then 15 years and am certified as a piano teacher as well. Moreover, I love reading, listening to podcasts, and watching movies; documentaries and history are two of my favorite genres.

"I have 7 years of teaching experience. I completed the Teaching Chinese as a Second Language Program at National Chengchi University in Taiwan. In 2023, I was awarded the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Scholarship. Currently, I am a Fulbrighter teaching Chinese at a university in North Carolina, US. I am skilled in teaching both traditional and simplified Chinese. My primary focus is daily conversation, but I can always tailor my teaching materials to suit the needs of my students. Regardless of whether my students are beginners, intermediates, or advanced learners, I find materials that are appropriate for them. My teaching resources extend beyond textbooks, incorporating social media, YouTube videos, movies, and online games to make lessons more engaging and enjoyable. In addition to language instruction, I am passionate about sharing Chinese and Taiwanese culture. I've conducted numerous cultural workshops at the university, covering topics like the Moon Festival, Chinese New Year, Chinese Paper Cut, Chinese Movie Night, and much more! Thus, students learn about both the language and the culture. I am very open to students' suggestions regarding language teaching and learning. Students are encouraged to discuss any topics they wish to learn about, and I will adjust my teaching to meet their expectations. Therefore, do not hesitate to ask me anything if you encounter any problems!
