About Erik
I am the lead 6th Grade General Studies teacher at Valley Beth Shalom Day School. I've been teaching and tutoring for the last 5 years: reading, writing, math, social studies, and ISEE/SSAT. My California certification is in Single Subject, English, and my M.Ed. is in Secondary English Education. Humanities is my strength but I've also been teaching math the last three years.

I'm a progressive minded educator who empowers critical thinking skills and strategies no matter the lesson or task. In my classroom I focus on relevant, real world project-based learning, in context mathematics, and writing tooled to purpose and audience. Both in class settings and one-on-one, I get to know each student and make sure to differentiate lessons to their interests and learning style.
