About Ellen
Every student can succeed. I provide feedback in safe ways so that students feel successful. Acknowledging what students do well is always part of the feedback. I consistently keep the student in mind and get to know them in order to find materials that are of interest to them. I always maintain a sense of humor and create a comfortable space for the students to try new and more challenging tasks so they can see their own growth.

I have worked with hundreds of students as a teacher and tutor with students from early elementary through middle school. I provide opportunities for student success by choosing high-interest articles and stories for the students. A phonics lesson may include letter cards and hands-on activities. Writing prompts may be responses to literature as well as creating a claim. This is done through building background knowledge, discussion, and my checking for understanding to ensure the student has a grasp of the content. Everything from phonics instruction to reading for deeper meaning along with writing to prompts and claims as well as learning to read for important information for study skills.
