About Fiona
I bring a unique blend of high-level theory and immediate clinical reality to your sessions. I hold a Life Sciences degree from the University of Toronto (U of T) and completed my Accelerated Nursing Degree at McMaster University, graduating from both with distinction. I am now a new grad nurse working at St. Joe’s Hospital in Hamilton.
While I wasn't always the "brightest" or most naturally gifted student, my success came from developing highly effective, purpose-driven study methods. This experience allows me to spot the specific learning traps that trip up hard-working students in fast-paced programs. My Approach and What Sets Me Apart RN-Level Framework: I teach you to move beyond memorization and adopt the clinical thinking required by nursing exams (Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and NCLEX-style questions). We connect the theory (e.g., the destruction of beta cells in T1DM) directly to the clinical action (e.g., DKA prioritization).
The "Purpose-Driven" Method: We don't study hard; we study smart. I provide the high-yield conceptual frameworks (like my organized notes on Inflammation and COPD) and use our time to practice application through case studies. This corrects the mindset of simply trying to "memorize the notes."
My sessions are specifically designed for students in nursing programs who are struggling with core concepts or high-stakes courses like Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. I know what weak students need to secure their marks, and I am inspired to lift up future nurses. My goal is to equip you with the purpose and framework necessary to not just pass your course, but to excel in your career.

Who The Lessons Are For:
I specialize in tutoring students in Nursing programs who are struggling with foundational core concepts. This includes Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. These lessons are ideal for the student who is currently failing or scoring below 75% because they are stuck in the "memorization trap".
"My Teaching Methodology: Purpose-Driven Study
My core technique is the "Purpose-Driven Study" framework, designed to break the shortcut mindset. Instead of learning facts, we learn the clinical purpose behind every concept.
Conceptual Frameworks:
We begin with my RN-curated, high-yield conceptual notes. For example, we use the visual framework to clearly distinguish between Type 1 (Absolute Deficiency) and Type 2 Diabetes (Insulin Resistance), or map out the complex Plasma Protein Systems (Complement, Clotting, Kinin) and their interconnectedness.
The "Application Test": I use the Socratic method to challenge your understanding. If you know the definition of hypoxemia , you must demonstrate how that dictates the nursing priority in a clinical scenario. You must prove you can use the information, not just recite it.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical 60-minute session is structured for maximum knowledge application and retention:
Concept Review (50%): A quick, targeted review of the high-yield concepts and definitions from my RN notes.
Applied Practice (50%): Working through NCLEX-style application questions and clinical case studies (like those found in my COPD and DM modules).
I will not give you the answers; I will guide you to the solution by forcing you to apply the correct framework.Independent Assignment: You will always leave with a specific homework assignment requiring synthesis (e.g., concept mapping or predicting next-step interventions), reinforcing independent study.
My tutoring provides a three-pronged advantage:
1. Clinical Context: I immediately bridge the gap between Pathophysiology and Nursing Intervention.
2. Resources: You receive expertly organized, focused study guides that highlight concepts and knowledge gaps most likely to fail a student.
3. Grade Recovery: I helped a struggling nursing student improves her grades from a 30% to a 60%.
