About Donald

Hi Everyone! I have an A.S. in Social Sciences, a B.A. in Anthropology (Linguistic/Cultural/Biological), and a B.A. in World Music/Dance from the University of Hawaii. I am a field anthropologist which means I am basically a living Indiana Jones researching cultures on my travels. So far I have been to over 80 countries across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. You are invited to book a trial lesson with me if you have any more questions, or so we can discuss learning goals and teaching methodology. Look forward to meeting you!

About the lesson

Hi everyone!

My name is Don (DonTravelsTheWorld on several social media pages), and I teach AP World , APUSH , AP Euro , AP Human Geography ️, AP US Government ️, AP African American Studies and AP Art History — and most of my students earn full marks on the exams! For easier booking I recommend a short 25min Trial lesson. After the trial lesson it is much easier to book a 50min regular session

I’m also a field anthropologist, and my research on living cultures has taken me to over 90 countries and counting ️. I’m excited to share my passion for history, geography, and global cultures with you all — and I’m here to help you master DBQ analysis, SAQs, LEQs, and MCQs as we get ready for the AP exams in May!

NOTE :

- I can communicate in English, Italian or Spanish, and some Japanese.

- I excel in teaching History & Geography to young learners ages 6-14.

- For high schoolers, we follow the College Board AMSCO Syllabus for AP World, APUSH, AP European History, AP African American Studies, AP Government & AP Human Geography.

- I provide all presentations, textbooks, documents & media.

ME AS A TEACHER AND TEACHING STYLE

My specialty is in highlighting marginalized history; History of the African Diaspora, History of the Americas, Indigenous Resistance to European Powers, Filipino Diaspora, Global LGBTQ+ Experiences & more! ‍

Don and I worked on my IB History IA in a rather short time frame. In our first trial lesson we made a detailed plan on how to tackle the task and managed to reach our goal accordingly. Throughout all lessons Don continuously showed great knowledge on the topic and was able to give me insight with a different perspective when I felt stuck. One of his best qualities is that Don is able to truly listen and understand his students needs, before figuring out a way to explain concepts that makes sense to them. I am thankful for his tutoring and you can be sure that he will always put in the extra effort to make your work the best it can possibly be. As a bonus you will always be able to laugh together, as Don has a great sense of humor :) I can wholeheartedly recommend Don as a tutor!

Donald is an absolutely wonderful tutor. He is kind, patient, and really dedicated to teaching. He was quickly able to determine the best way to teach my son - often they are strategies that are quite clever - and through it, I myself have learned more about how my son operates. My husband and I sometimes hear the lessons within earshot and are continually impressed by my son's growth in knowledge and curiosity. Donald will also send periodic updates on my son's progress, which is appreciated, and it reflects Donald's persistent effort in teaching. In short, Donald is topnotch!
