About David
I have now taught 2+ years in public education as an elementary teacher. As stated in the title, I have extensive experience with trauma-informed teaching, having worked in 2 separate Indigenous communities in rural/remote areas of Canada. As an immigrant, I have always had a passion for Language Learning and empathy for ELL (English Language Learners), with experience in phonics programs and intervention.
My Bachelor of Education was obtained from UBC, with a practicum placement in Richmond, BC. My most familiar grades are: Gr. 3, Gr. 6 and Gr. 7. I have a good understanding of the K-6 BC Curriculum and a general understanding of the 7-12 BC Curriculum.
Prior to my BEd, I also completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology at UBC. During that time, I accumulated multiple tutoring gigs in 1-on-1 and small group settings, including: middle school tutoring with some overseas experience (IB Social Studies, general English Language Arts), high school math and science tutoring (Gr. 9 - 12, AP level Chemistry).
I am able to communicate with conversational-level Mandarin and beginner Japanese.

I love to connect with my students and figure out a personalized instruction method that is unique to the student. I believe that each student is unique, and there is no set plan that works with everyone. I do well when the student is able to provide their own teaching materials or the concepts that need to be covered, in advance.
Early elementary (Gr. 1-3) students would benefit most from my tutoring as that is my most recent teaching experience; I also have extensive experience with tutoring middle to high school students.
