About Shawnie
I am a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner and have my Associate Level training in Orton Gillingham. I am currently offering virtual tutoring sessions. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in Natural Science. I completed my Wilson Reading System certification and have the credentials of a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner. This included over 90 hours of Intensive Instruction. It also includes over 90 hours of practicum training with a student while being observed by a trainer. I have also completed over 90 hours of Orton Gillingham training. I am highly competent in word structure, including phonemes and associated graphemes, syllables, syllabication rules, morphemes, schwa, etc.

I currently tutor students using the Wilson Reading System as well as the Orton Gillingham method. I use a multi-sensory, systematic, explicit, and prescriptive approach to ensure mastery. My sessions are 45 min - 1 hour long. Each session focuses on encoding, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
