About Lia
I was educated in Hong Kong before completing my Master’s degree at the University of Birmingham, and I now work professionally as an engineer in the UK.
Having experienced both the Hong Kong and UK education systems, I understand the different academic expectations and challenges students can face when transitioning between them. I particularly enjoy helping students build confidence in Maths, Physics and engineering-related subjects, while developing a deeper understanding rather than simply memorising solutions.
As a working engineer, I also bring practical experience that allows me to connect academic concepts with real-world applications and help students understand how what they learn can be applied beyond the classroom.

I believe the best way to learn is to understand why something works, rather than simply memorising formulae or solutions. My lessons are relaxed, supportive and adapted to each student’s individual needs and learning style.
I usually begin by identifying areas the student finds challenging, then work through concepts step by step using clear explanations and practical examples. I encourage students to ask questions and make mistakes without feeling pressured, as I believe this is an important part of building confidence. We then practise together before moving towards independent problem-solving.
As a professional engineer, I also enjoy connecting Maths and Physics concepts to real-world examples, helping students see how what they learn is applied beyond the classroom.
