About Jen

Graduating with a First Class Degree in Fine Art from The Glasgow School of Art in 2020, I have since gone on to work in various art education roles. These include as a school's art tutor for Sense Scotland and as a freelance art tutor. I currently deliver art workshops for kids and families at the Bowes Museum, and work as a clay/ceramics teacher for kids. My classes are child focused and I work with each student to help them build confidence, find their creative voice, learn new techniques and think like an artist. I am passionate about creative education and love supporting children to fall in love with art.

About the lesson

I approach teaching through a desire to share my knowledge learned at art school, focusing on one to one support and individually tailored classes to improve confidence, creativity and technical ability. I like classes to be honest, nurturing and supportive with time for questions and a chat as well as hands on, practical learning. I also am keen to share ways in which you can make your art practice more sustainable and eco-friendly.

I have access to a ceramics studio in Durham which can be hired out for lessons involving clay and sculpture, or to do drawing.

I am very flexible with my classes and acknowledge the wide variety of learning approaches, abilities and styles so I make sure to tailor each set of classes to the individual student! If you don't know where to begin, I have a complete beginners course which will guide you through different creative processes and help you begin to think and make like an artist. All classes are offered on a week by week basis so there is no pressure to commit to a certain amount, allowing for maximum flexibility for you as a student!

Perfect! My first class with Jen was great.
It was more of an informal chat to get to know each other better, find out what I wanted and establish how the classes would work.
