About Haiyan
I am a fully qualified teacher of both English and Chinese, with extensive international teaching experience. Trained at a Chinese university for four years as a qualified English teacher GTC-registered Chinese teacher in Scotland Four years of experience as a lecturer at a Chinese university Over 20 years of experience teaching at St Leonards School - a UK international school, specialising in IB and IGCSE programmes 10 years of experience teaching a variety of courses for the University of St Andrews Evening Chinese Programme Experienced in teaching A-Level and Scottish Higher courses Skilled at teaching both native and non-native speakers across all levels

Because I have taught everyone from complete beginners to advanced IB, IGCSE, A-Level, and university students, I can adapt my approach to match your pace. Whether you’re preparing for exams, improving your conversational Chinese, or studying for personal or professional reasons, I will guide you step by step towards your goals. Most importantly, my lessons are dynamic and student-centred—you’ll be actively involved, using Chinese in meaningful ways right from the start. My aim is to make every lesson a positive and motivating experience so that learning Chinese becomes something you look forward to.
