My first step when approaching a new student is finding their strengths and weaknesses and centre the teaching based around these characteristics. From this I can teach at a pace which will be beneficial for them. I also ask continuous questions to see how comfortable the student is with the content but also encourage them to ask for help wherever needed. My previous experience has helped me teach students from a wide spectrum of capabilities and backgrounds and has improved my abilities as a tutor.
