About Ana

I love to teach students from ages as young as 7 years old to students as wise and grown as 60+ years old. A first lesson with me will look more like a conversation between peers. I want to know why you want to be a musician, and most importantly, what has drawn you to the piano. I will ask about your previous experience to gauge where your music theory knowledge is and identify what your strengths are.

I welcome all sorts of students, from those with no background in music to advanced players! If you are seeking guidance, accountability, and a fellow musician, creative to share your love of music, I'm your gal!

About the lesson

I love to teach students from the model I was taught. Typically, a lesson with me is fostered within the first 10 minutes of our class. With my weekly in-person recurring students we assess our posture as soon as we sit down on the bench. I check for elbow alignment, a straight back, strong shoulders, and curved fingers ready to play at a moment's notice! After getting comfortable in the most optimal playing position, I ask students to play both hands separately, and together, the scales they were assigned with a metronome from the week's previous and build targets with the student on speed and articulation. Depending on their practice, this part of the lesson can take less than 10 minutes or more. The results of this review determine the rest of the hour-long lesson. With a student well-practiced, we set a goal of 5-10 clicks (BPM) above the previous speed for the student to achieve fluidity within the next month on top of their repertoire.
