About Bella
I have been playing piano for 20 years. I learned how to play by ear for the first ten years and have been classically trained for the last ten. I am currently studying music composition at the University of Memphis, where I am an active student in the piano department. I receive private lessons and perform in concerts as a solo pianist and in ensembles or orchestras. As for my own repertoire, I have studied and performed traditional composers such as Bach, Chopin, Mozart, and Debussy. In addition, I have taken semesters where I studied jazz theory and performed jazz standards. Most recently, I have focused on works from modern composers such as Conner Chee and Fred Onovwerosuoke. Outside of university, I participated in the Memphis Jazz workshop, performed concerts of my compositions that involved extended techniques on the piano, and performed four-hand piano quartets at the Sun Valley Music Festival in Idaho.

Using books such as Alfred, I focus the student on foundational music theory, introductory techniques, and note-reading. A typical lesson for beginner students will start with correct posture and hand positioning, understanding the note names on the piano, along with easy scales, introducing note values, and applying all concepts to reading music. As an instructor, I try to encourage all ways of learning and focus on achieving the goals set by the student. My teaching best fits beginner and intermediate students.
