About Kylee

Hello, I'm Kylee! I am a Classics (BAH, MA) graduate with over 10 years of experience with languages. In my years as a student, I have also had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant and a lab instructor. Something important to know about me is that I am a bit of a language nerd! What this means for you is that you can count on having a tutor who is extremely passionate about the teaching material. My goal is to create a low-stakes environment in which enthusiasm and a positive attitude contribute to language-learning. In my opinion, creating an atmosphere of safety allows the tutored party the comfort they need to master the concepts that are necessary. One of my strengths as a language tutor is understanding that each person will require tailored lesson plans, their own pace, and different learning methods. I am invested in finding what works for each person. I am especially perfect for those who have wanted to learn a language but have been intimidated by it. Together, let's find a way for you to learn that works.

About the lesson

Have you ever wondered how to read the New Testament in its original Greek language? Or wondered about the literal translation of Latin abbreviations such as "etc." and "i.e."? Perhaps your interest in languages is practical: you'd like to order in French on your next vacation, or be able to carry on a conversation with a friend in German. Perhaps you'd rather like to strengthen your understanding of the English language and its complex and beautiful grammar. Whether your curiosities are academic/practical or recreational in nature, what is necessary to learn language skills is someone who is experienced, but also one who understands that learning languages can be a daunting process that requires patience and adaptation to one's learning style. I am a PhD student who has studied languages for over 10 years. During this time, I have been exposed to various teaching methods, I've gained experience as a teaching assistant and lab instructor, and most importantly, I've grown immense respect for the complicated and rewarding journey that it is to learn a language. With me as a tutor, there are two paths from which to choose. For those who prefer a simple process, we will tackle the basics of grammar to build a foundation before proceeding to the language basics themselves. For those who require contextualization and a bit of magic, we will not only tackle the basics, but along the way, we will incorporate tidbits of literature, history, fun facts, and other information that keeps the journey fun and appreciative. I take beginners of any age.
