About Lauren
I'm currently an English Instructor in The Writing Program at Rutgers University, where I teach English 101, English 102, and Writing Workshop 100. I also serve as an instructor with the Rutgers Early College Humanities Program, teaching essay and creative writing to high-school juniors and seniors at various public high schools across New Jersey. I've previously taught in the Department of College Writing at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
I hold an MFA in Creative Writing-Fiction from Rutgers University-Newark, and have been awarded several scholarships and fellowships from artist foundations and residencies across the United States.

My teaching method emphasizes the student's strengths and doesn't nitpick the weaknesses. I believe in working with students to help them identify (on their own) what they're doing right and what needs to be solved. I teach them ways to tap into the knowledge and perspectives that they already have, and how they could then bring those ideas, insider knowledge, and viewpoints to their own essays, papers, and creative assignments.
As an editor, I am trained in editing for both grammar and content, and can provide feedback on sentence structure, citation, content, and overall organization of an academic essay.
