About Matthew
I am a college finance major and Division I baseball player with a strong academic background in math, statistics, and finance. Balancing a rigorous course load with athletics has strengthened my discipline, time management, and commitment to excellence. As a tutor, I focus on clear, patient explanations and helping students truly understand concepts rather than memorize steps. My approach as a tutor is focused on clarity, conversation, and confidence. I start by figuring out what the student already understands and where things begin to break down, then I explain concepts in simple, logical steps rather than rushing through formulas. I encourage questions throughout the session and adjust my explanations based on how the student learns best, whether that’s visual examples, real-world comparisons, or step-by-step practice problems.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of what the student is currently working on or struggling with. From there, we walk through key concepts together, apply them to examples or homework problems, and finish by making sure the student can explain the idea back in their own words. I also help students develop problem-solving strategies so they can work independently outside of sessions.
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I’m a current college finance major who has taken many of the same classes students are struggling with now. I understand how professors structure exams and assignments, and I explain material in a practical, straightforward way without unnecessary jargon. I’m also very conversational and patient, which helps students feel comfortable asking questions and staying engaged.
My lessons are best suited for high school and early college students taking math, statistics, finance, accounting, or Excel-based courses. This includes introductory through intermediate college-level classes, business majors, and students preparing for exams, quizzes, or ongoing coursework who want clear explanations and steady improvement.
