About Heather
As a former high school English/Language Arts teacher and current college professor in Teacher Education, providing engaging, effective, and meaningful learning experiences are at the center of my teaching. I have four degrees (USC: BA and MA; UCSB: MA and Ph.D.) and a current California Teaching Credential; I also serve as a University Mentor for Student-Teachers across LA and Orange County; I am the Coordinator for a graduate program in Bilingual Education; and I facilitate professional development sessions for K-12 and college-level instructors to improve their teaching. I have given numerous presentations at research and practitioner conferences on teaching topics, in addition to publishing book chapters, essays, and articles in research and practitioner journals on teaching and educational research. Teaching is not my past-time; it’s my expertise.

I provide student-centered lessons that are rooted in culturally responsive teaching and 21st century literacy-learning to make sure that all the students I teach benefit from practice- and research-proven teaching practices, while also emphasizing student-agency to build independent learning skills through developing students’ metacognition.
My expertise in teaching, research, writing, and overall literacy benefit any student who needs support in those areas, including, but not limited to, students in middle and high school English/Language Arts classes; undergraduate students in English or other humanities/social sciences courses; writing support (i.e., expository essays, persuasive essays, research papers, personal narratives); graduate student writing assignments; and thesis or dissertation proofreading.

Details
All lessons will be at least 1-hour long. For any individual lesson in which the total time is not in 1-hour increments, the total cost will be determined by multiplying the total time by the cost of a 1-hour lesson (e.g., 1.5 hours x $30 = $45). Payments are due at the end of EACH lesson via cash, Zelle, or Venmo ONLY.
