About Davy

I have a Bachelor's & Master's in music, and I am ABD with a Doctorate in Music. I have sung professionally with the San Antonio Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Light Opera Oklahoma Company (Tulsa, OK), San Antonio Opera Company, Opera Piccola of San Antonio, Hill Country Opera (Fredericksburg, TX), One Ounce Opera (Austin, TX), and Cimarron Opera Company (Norman, Oklahoma). While attending Oklahoma City University, Texas State University, and the University of Oklahoma, I was given many opportunities to perform leading roles that challenged me as a vocalist and as an actress. I have also competed and excelled in many vocal competitions. I was a NATS finalist many times, including the Graduate Women’s Division champion in Spring 2012. Just recently, I was a semi-finalist for the Classical Singer competition in both the classical and musical theater divisions. I truly believe in the philosophy that I can always improve upon my art, and I believe performance practice is a key element. I am currently a performer with the Oklahoma City Opera on Tap.

About the lesson

I currently teach over 20 hours of voice lessons a week. I instruct primarily music, voice, education, composition, acting, and dance students in the art of vocal performance, musical theater, and CCM style techniques with an individualized and holistic approach to technique; while exploring and cultivating their skills in vocal technique and developing their knowledge in vocal repertoire. Due to the broad range of students I teach, I am knowledgeable in many types of vocal repertoire genres and styles. I also coach my students on performance practice and acting techniques for juries, the live stage, and audition preparation. I assisted in preparing one of my voice students for the Miss Oklahoma City University Pageant, and I am honored to share she was crowned Miss OCU, and was also a semifinalist for Miss Oklahoma multiple years in a row. Many of my students have been hired with professional equity companies such as Lyric Theater of Oklahoma, Music Theater Wichita, and the MUNY. I have had multiple students perform in national tours and broadway tours including the tour of "Escape to Margaritaville" and "Bandstand."

Every week I hold performance masterclasses where we focus heavily on technique, self-confidence, self-exploration, and performance practice in an inviting and nurturing environment. Multiple times throughout the year I hold specialized masterclasses on the holistic approach to vocal health. I also aid with recruitment by allowing perspective students to sit in on my applied lessons, and I offer mock lessons to students taking an interest in OCU. In addition to private and applied lessons, I also teach a section of Class Voice to novice singers, and I coach the vocalists in the “triple threat” numbers for the Oklahoma City University American Spirit Ann Lacey School of Dance productions.

During the summer, I teach vocal technique and audition masterclasses, and vocal health seminars at the Oklahoma City University High School Music Theater Program. I have also coached the vocalists at the Oklahoma City University High School Dance Camp.

My extensive performance experience will also equip me to be an asset to your vocal journey.
