About Derek
Greetings!
My name is Derek. I was originally born in the USA but I grew up in Slovakia. I am currently living in New York City as an Actor and an Artist. Through my journey, I have discovered that there is a universal language hidden within the fabrics of Art. Together we can bring this truth to light. I’d love to explore how my experience as an Actor and Artist can help you dive deep into the language of English and how my perception of reality can help unlock new colors within your world.
I am also a film photographer, a painter, a writer, and a musician. I have spent time exploring various careers such as being an activist, a horticulturalist, a plant medicine teacher, and most recently, I have entered the world of Tea.
Tea has forever been the cup of humanity. A way that cultures from all over the world, throughout history, have brewed their relationships to art, philosophy, politics, and culture itself. Tea, perhaps, may be considered the first crafted language. Now, as we explore the language of English together, may we pay homage to the lessons of the eloquent ancient brew. Tea, to me, is a collection of stories shared amongst the storytellers. This, my friend, is where you and I could begin. By sharing our collection of stories with each other.
One of my favorite passions is to have deep and meaningful conversations. Ones that expand our perceptions of reality itself and dare to ask the right questions. The world today is a very complex and interesting place. I feel that in order to make sense of it, we need to discuss it with each other. I would be very curious and interested to learn of your opinions and perceptions of our world from your own personal vantage point. Together may we uncover the beauty of our shared collective moment.
The foundation to any conversation is the ability to listen. I invite you to come and share your story with me as I listen to you. It would be an honor to help set you off on your journey through the language of English and the infinite world of story.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Together we can discuss your goals and aspirations within the realm of the English language. I can help you refine your existing grammatical foundation and can become the perfect companion if you are searching for someone to help fine-tune your sense of expression. I am confident I may assist you at any point of your English journey, whether you are a beginner or conversational. However, I recommend my teachings if you are at least A1-A2 level.
I have spent my life dedicated to the path of the Artist, specifically as an Actor. I have been professionally studying the craft of Acting for over 15 years. What acting has taught me are the skills and tools to use in order to fully embody my own humanity and to unlock my body as a profound instrument of time. I can help hand over some of the skills and vocal exercises I have learned so that your english can grow in a fun and creative way.
I speak English, Slovak and German.
I also have an extensive library that we can tentatively explore together. We can discuss philosophical texts, your favorite novels, or even jump into some of my favorite plays in order to play around with dialogue, structure and conversational reality. I can also teach you various vocal exercises that have helped me in articulation, muscular development, as well as exploring the musicality of language.
