About Candice

I’m a native French speaker from France, originally from Martinique in the Caribbean, and I’ve been living in Montreal for the past 7 years, so I bring a mix of cultures and perspectives into the way I teach. I’ll also continue my bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania as a student-athlete playing basketball, so I understand what it takes to balance academics and stay disciplined. I’m a very easygoing and positive person, and I really enjoy getting to know my students and what they like. I personally am into basketball (Go Spurs! Go Liberty!), Pokémon, cats, Smiski and collectibles, and even K-pop Demon Hunters (I do have hot-takes about that movie). Basketball is also a big part of my life as I’m aiming to go pro in the next couple of years, so I bring that same energy and motivation into my lessons. I also love traveling and learning about different cultures, so conversations with me will always feel natural and fun. My goal is simple: help you feel comfortable, confident, and actually enjoy learning French.

About the lesson

Hi! I’ve been a French tutor at Davidson College for the past year, and my approach is simple: I focus on you first. Before jumping into grammar or vocabulary, I make sure you feel comfortable, understood, and confident. Learning a language can be intimidating, so I create a space where making mistakes is part of the process, not something to stress about.

My teaching style is flexible and interactive. I adapt each lesson to your needs, whether that’s working on homework, preparing for exams, improving your speaking skills, or just becoming more comfortable with everyday French. We’ll mix conversation, listening, writing, and targeted grammar in a way that feels natural and engaging.

A typical lesson usually starts with a relaxed check-in or short conversation, then moves into focused activities based on your goals, and ends with a quick recap and tips to keep improving between sessions. I want each lesson to feel useful but also enjoyable.

What sets me apart is how personal my approach is. I adjust to your pace and your interests. If you don’t feel like doing a full hour of structured work, we can also incorporate your hobbies into learning, whether that’s talking about things you enjoy or using them as a way to practice French. For example, I love cats and collectibles like Pokémon or Smiski, and I’m always happy to bring fun, real-life topics into our sessions to make learning feel more natural.

My lessons are open to all levels: beginners, intermediate, or advanced students, whether you’re in school or just learning for fun, travel, or personal growth.
