About Mallory

Hello! My name is Mallory and I’m a second-year graduate student majoring in Communication Studies at California State University, San Bernardino, where I am continuing to develop my expertise in communication and education. I currently teach Oral Communication at the college level and work as a Communication Consultant at my university’s Speaking Center, where I help students develop and refine their public speaking and presentation skills.

In addition to teaching and consulting, I lead undergraduate interns in strategic social media management, giving me experience in both communication and professional leadership. These roles have strengthened my ability to work with students from different backgrounds, identify their individual needs, and help them communicate with confidence.

My teaching experience spans more than 10 years. I began my career working with elementary-aged students and am now expanding my teaching to the college level. Working with students of different ages has taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable learning and growing.

As a tutor, my goal is to make public speaking approachable and enjoyable. Whether you are preparing for a class presentation, working on your communication skills, or simply looking to feel more confident in front of an audience, I will meet you at your current level and help you build from there. I believe that everyone has the potential to become a confident and effective speaker, and I look forward to helping you discover yours.

About the lesson

I believe public speaking is a skill that can transform not only how you communicate, but how you approach every aspect of life. With over ten years of teaching experience working with students of all ages, I have developed a patient, supportive, and practical approach to helping people become confident and charismatic speakers.

My teaching method combines instruction with hands-on practice. I break public speaking into manageable skills—such as organizing ideas, developing a compelling message, using vocal variety and body language, and connecting with an audience—and then give students opportunities to practice each skill in a supportive environment. I provide specific, constructive feedback so students understand both what they are already doing well and what they can improve.

A typical lesson begins by identifying a student's goals and reviewing progress from previous sessions. We then focus on one or two specific speaking skills, followed by guided exercises and practice. Most importantly, students spend time actually speaking, whether through short presentations, impromptu exercises, storytelling, or mock speeches. We finish by reflecting on what worked, identifying an area for improvement, and setting a goal for the next lesson.

What sets me apart is my belief that anyone can become an engaging speaker. Public speaking can feel intimidating, but I create a low-pressure environment where students can take risks, make mistakes, and build confidence through practice. Rather than simply teaching students what to say, I help them discover their own authentic speaking style and learn how to communicate with confidence.

My lessons are suitable for students of all ages and experience levels, from beginners who feel nervous speaking in front of others to more advanced speakers looking to refine their presentation, storytelling, or communication skills. I can tailor lessons to individual goals, including school or university presentations, professional presentations, interviews, speeches, competitions, or simply becoming a more confident communicator in everyday life.
