About Juan

I am currently working on my BS in Computational Biology at UT Austin after growing up with a passion for the Biological Sciences. I am deeply passionate about any branch of Biology that focuses on the organismal level such as microbiology, zoology, and herpetology; which is contradictory to my degree since in Comp Bio you mostly deal with coding and genomics. As for my experience, I have taught mostly high school courses ranging from IGCSE and IB Biology, to IGCSE Geography, Spanish Literature, and Conversational Spanish, as well as general science for middle schoolers.

About the lesson

I believe learning should be a fun process that turns a brief spark of interest into a commitment to the subject material. I don't think learning should be a burden or a stressor but rather an opportunity to expand our mind. I'm extremely passionate about learning and I understand that the whole process works differently for everyone, which is precisely what makes teaching interesting to me. I enjoy teaching in a student-specific manner. I plan my lessons according to the student's learning style and needs, whilst developing strong conceptual foundations and implementing active learning. My lessons are mostly targeted to middle school, high school, and college students but through experience I am open to teaching anyone. They are divided into four parts, starting with a brief introduction pertaining to the goals to be achieved during the lesson, followed by concept exploration, application (the fun part), and reflection. I believe what sets me apart is my approach to teaching and my learning philosophy. I used to struggle with learning until I chose to make it adhere to my preferences, which is something I hope to teach my students. Have them understand that there is no perfect path or rulebook, and if there is, it is unique to each and every one of them.
