About Harvey

I am a dedicated guitarist with over 15 years of experience. My passion for music started early, and since then, I've developed a deep understanding of both rhythm and lead guitar. I've played in several bands, refining my skills in various genres, from rock, blues, funk to acoustic and alternative music.

As a tutor, I pride myself on my patient and adaptable teaching style. I understand that every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit your goals, whether you're just picking the guitar up or looking to advance your skills. With a background as a teacher in both primary and in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school, I've gained invaluable experience in working with students of all ages and abilities, ensuring a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

My teaching method focuses on creating a balance between practical playing and foundational theory. I guide students through learning their favourite songs, mastering core guitar techniques like chord transitions, picking, strumming patterns, and scales. I adapt each lesson based on your goals- whether you want to play by ear, improve your timing, or explore improvisation. I emphasise hands-on practice and music theory only when it benefits your understanding, ensuring a fun and progressive learning experience.

Typical length of a lesson:
Each lesson typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your needs and availability. This allows enough time for a mix of new material, technique development, and playing through songs while leaving room for questions and any personalised guidance.

Qualifications and experience:
I have been a self-taught guitarist for over 15 years now, having played rhythm and lead in multiple bands. I have helped guide multiple friends and fellow musicians in learning the guitar and improving their skills. My background as a primary and SEND teacher has equipped me with the pedagogical knowledge and adaptability to cater for a diverse range of learning styles.
