About Blair

I am an experienced flute tutor with 14 years of teaching High School, College students, and adults, having successfully guided over 300 students. My teaching philosophy emphasises patience, personalised guidance, and balancing technical learning with creative exploration.

I focus on tone, technique, rhythm, music theory, and expressive playing, while creating interactive and engaging lessons. I encourage students to perform in concerts, recitals, competitions, and school or college events, giving them practical experience and confidence.

Many of my students have achieved significant milestones, which I celebrate as a reflection of their dedication. My goal is to provide a supportive and motivating learning environment where students can develop musical skills, gain confidence, and cultivate a lifelong passion for music while enjoying their flute journey.

About the lesson

My teaching approach for flute is clear, structured, and focused on practical learning. I begin by understanding each student’s musical background, learning style, and goals to tailor lessons effectively.

I teach flute techniques such as breathing, embouchure development, finger movement, tone shaping, articulation, and rhythm in simple and organised steps. I maintain open communication so lessons remain interactive and effective.

I use real-life examples and musical case studies from live performances and recordings to show how flute skills are applied in real music.

Along with flute playing, I teach related subjects including music theory, rhythm training, ear training, scale development, sight reading, and basic improvisation. I also guide students on building practice discipline and stage confidence.
