About Cristina

Hello! My name is Cristina, and I’m an English teacher based in Toronto.

I work with adults from around the world who want to feel more confident and natural when speaking English. I specialize in job interview coaching, IELTS preparation, professional English, conversation practice, and everyday communication.

With a degree in English Literature, TESOL certification, and several years of experience teaching adults online, I tailor my classes to each student’s goals, interests, and individual needs. Whether you’re preparing for an important job interview, working towards a higher IELTS score, improving your professional English, or simply looking to become more comfortable speaking, we’ll focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference for you.

In our classes, we might work on vocabulary and word choice, grammar and sentence structure, fluency, pronunciation, interview answers, or more natural ways to express your ideas. I also like introducing useful expressions and elevated vocabulary that you can actually use in real conversations.

My lessons are practical, supportive, and focused on real communication rather than simply memorizing rules or textbook phrases. I provide personalized materials and activities so that each class is relevant to you and your goals.

About the lesson

What can we work on together?

Every class is a little different. Some students come with a specific goal, such as an upcoming interview or IELTS exam, while others want to become more comfortable expressing themselves in English. We can adapt the focus depending on what you need and what you would like to improve.

Job Interview Preparation and Coaching

We’ll work through realistic interview situations and questions, from introducing yourself to discussing your experience, handling difficult questions, and talking about your strengths and accomplishments. We’ll look at how to organize your ideas, choose effective language, and make your answers sound clear and authentic.

IELTS Preparation

For IELTS students, we can work on speaking responses, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and developing ideas in greater detail. We’ll practise different question types, examine your recurring mistakes, and find ways to make your responses more developed and effective.

Guided Conversation

Conversation practice goes beyond simply answering questions. I’ll introduce topics, ask follow-up questions, challenge you to explain your ideas, and encourage you to use new language. We might discuss culture, travel, work, technology, current issues, relationships, lifestyle, or something completely different that interests you.

Vocabulary in Context

Rather than working through long vocabulary lists, we’ll introduce useful words and expressions through conversation and real situations. This might include phrasal verbs, collocations, idioms, descriptive language, professional terminology, or more sophisticated alternatives to very common words.

Grammar Through Communication

If certain grammar problems keep appearing when you speak, we can work on them directly through examples and conversation. We’ll focus on how grammar actually sounds and functions in everyday English, rather than spending the entire class memorizing rules.

Professional English

If you use English at work, we can practise situations that are relevant to your professional life, including meetings, presentations, workplace conversations, networking, small talk, explaining ideas, giving opinions, and handling difficult conversations.

Language Refinement

For students who already have a strong command of English, we can focus on the finer points of communication. We might compare similar words, explore subtle differences in tone, or find a more natural or sophisticated way to express an idea.

Practical Feedback

You’ll receive specific feedback throughout our work together. We can look at recurring grammar mistakes, pronunciation, awkward phrasing, word choice, sentence structure, and ways to make your English sound more natural. I’ll also point out language that you’re already using well so you know what to keep doing.

Authentic Materials

We can bring real English into the classroom through articles, interviews, podcasts, videos, advertisements, short stories, and other interesting material. We’ll use these as a springboard for discussion while exploring vocabulary, expressions, cultural references, and different styles of communication.

Materials Between Classes

When useful, I can provide exercises, vocabulary practice, discussion questions, reading material, or other resources connected to what we’ve covered. If you have something specific you want to work on, such as an interview question, presentation, article, or piece of writing, we can use that as the starting point for our next class.
