About Theo

Hi, I'm Theo and I'm in my third year at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying classical piano.

I began learning the piano at 7 years old, and later the cello when I was 10. At 14, I joined the Aldeburgh Young Musicians programme, a Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) providing a wide range of opportunities for young musicians in the East of England.

I have given various solo recitals as part of the Norwich School’s Making Musicians programme; playing in venues such as the Norwich Cathedral and Blakeney Church. In March 2023, I was the winner of the ‘Creativity prize’ as part of a national school’s academy awards ceremony held in Birmingham, with schools across the country involved. I have a strong interest in jazz and I play in a number of college ensembles, as well as receiving jazz piano lessons from Dan Whieldon. I have my own quartet in Norwich and I enjoy composing and arranging pieces for them, with which we have played gigs throughout the city. I have played the piano in the Royal Albert Hall with the Norfolk Student’s Jazz Orchestra as part of the Music for Youth Proms, as well winning the Shorten Cup given to best small ensemble as part of the Norfolk County Music Festival.

About the lesson

Typical lessons will be 1 hour long (but can can be flexible), and during the lessons we can work on pieces you have brought, as well as general technique to piano your playing. I have taught many students at my old secondary school whilst I was there, with their level mainly being beginner. I really enjoyed teaching and seeing their progress, and it is something I want to continue whilst I study at music college.

I can teach music theory also up to grade 5, and in-depth jazz theory as well, such as understanding chord symbols and chord extensions etc.
