About Nina

Hello! My name is Nina, and I am a professional violinist and violist who wants to help students grow as confident and expressive musicians. I hold a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Master of Music and Artist Diploma in Viola Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, one of the world's leading music conservatories.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of studying and performing alongside exceptional musicians. I was selected as Principal Viola of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada for two consecutive seasons and later served as Principal Viola of the National Repertory Orchestra. I have also attended the prestigious Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, where I studied chamber music with internationally renowned artists. These experiences have shaped both my musicianship and my approach to teaching.

As a teacher, I believe that every student deserves personalized instruction, encouragement, and a positive learning environment. Whether you are just beginning, returning to your instrument, or preparing for auditions, I tailor each lesson to your individual goals and learning style. My aim is not only to help you develop excellent technique and musical skills, but also to foster confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of music.

About the lesson

I believe that every student learns differently, so my lessons are always tailored to each individual's goals, experience level, and learning style. Whether you are a complete beginner, a young student just starting your musical journey, an intermediate player looking to refine your technique, or an advanced musician preparing for auditions, juries, or performances, I will design lessons that meet you where you are and help you progress with confidence.

A typical lesson includes technical exercises to build a strong foundation, followed by focused work on repertoire. We will develop healthy playing habits, efficient practice strategies, music reading, rhythm, intonation, tone production, and musical expression. I also encourage students to ask questions and actively participate in the learning process, creating a supportive environment where mistakes are viewed as valuable opportunities for growth.

I hold a Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Artist Diploma in Viola Performance, giving me years of experience studying with world-class musicians and performing at a high level. At the same time, I understand that every student has different aspirations. Some may dream of attending a conservatory, while others simply want to enjoy making music or build confidence in a new skill. My role is to provide expert guidance, encouragement, and personalized instruction that helps each student reach their own unique goals while fostering a lifelong love of music.
