About Lorcan

Having graduated from Goldsmiths' Unversity of London in 2019, I've continued to play for singers and instrumental bands in south-east London. I also on occasion take part in the London Jam scene, which is filled with exceptional musicians. my keys attributes involve improvisation, syncopation found in RnB and jazz music and a general feel-good approach to harmony.

I also produce music in the form of instrumental hip hop and Rnb.

About the lesson

Want to be able to play the piano with some freedom and creative expression? want to begin learning your favorite pieces but don't know where to start! Maybe, you just want to get to grips with the basics of technique and need some guidance. I'm here to help!

I’m looking to take on students who have an interest or urge to learn contemporary forms of Piano. I have experience performing at various venues around South-East London. genres mainly ranging from Rnb to soul to Jazz. I've always placed technicality and individual creativity in parallel with each other, ensuring that a healthy balance between the two can create something engaging and interesting. Of course, there is a need to focus on technique but we want to make it fun, right?!

Who are the lessons aimed at:

Lessons would be suited for beginners, intermediate, and even seasoned instrumentalists who are looking to sharpen their skillset when it comes to the keyboard. For younger students, short lessons in person are preferred. Lessons are aimed at students who want to learn music for the following reasons (but are not necessarily limited to):

- Developing a musical ear
- Developing technique/Skill
- Transcribing music
- Improvisation over their own or already written material
- songwriting

What do l specialize in?

My practice mainly focuses on contemporary song-form, forms of the Blues, soul, funk, pop and Jazz (including contemporary UK Jazz), improvisation, and individual creativity when approaching the piano. For the most part, my practice involves being the session pianist/keys player for bands and singers working within these genres. I also partake in the traditional Jazz practice by engaging with contemporary material. this includes reharmonizing given melodies, improvising, and placing your own rhythmic feel on said material; i.e mixing technicality with individual creative expression!

What should I expect the first lesson to be like and lessons thereafter?

In our first lesson, we'll discuss what your interests are; what aspirations you have for the piano. we'll likely develop a little plan for your progress and highlight the key aspects you want to improve. Aspects you see as pivotal to what draws you to music. I will most likely ask you to play something just to gauge where you're at in your musical journey.
