About Mateo
I have 9 years of teaching experience and hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with children, teenagers, adults, hobby musicians, and aspiring performers who wanted to improve their guitar playing. I enjoy creating supportive lessons where students feel motivated to grow while enjoying every stage of their musical journey.
One learner joined my classes with the goal of performing confidently at family gatherings but struggled with rhythm consistency and nervousness. Together we focused on timing exercises, song preparation, and relaxed performance practice through weekly sessions. After several months of steady progress, the student confidently performed multiple songs before a live audience and discovered a lasting passion for music.
I believe every guitarist develops at a unique pace and deserves lessons that reflect individual interests and learning styles. My classroom encourages creativity, patience, and consistent practice while providing positive guidance that helps students overcome challenges with confidence. Seeing learners enjoy music while achieving their personal goals remains the most rewarding part of my profession.
Outside teaching, I enjoy composing original instrumental pieces, attending live music festivals, and studying guitar techniques from musicians around the world. These experiences continually inspire fresh lesson ideas and broaden the musical perspectives I share with my students. I begin by learning about each student's musical interests, current ability, and long-term aspirations before creating an individualized lesson plan. This allows every learner to progress comfortably while developing both technical skills and artistic confidence. Each lesson combines structured exercises with enjoyable performance-based activities.
Fundamental techniques such as posture, hand positioning, picking accuracy, and chord transitions are introduced gradually to establish a strong foundation. Rhythm training includes strumming patterns, timing exercises, and accompaniment techniques that help students perform confidently with different musical styles. Scale practice develops finger coordination while improving improvisation and melodic creativity.
Students explore acoustic and electric guitar according to their personal interests, learning styles such as pop, rock, blues, folk, and fingerstyle. Music theory is integrated naturally through songs so learners understand chord construction, progressions, and harmony without feeling overwhelmed. Ear training activities strengthen listening skills and help students recognize melodies, chords, and rhythmic patterns more accurately.
Students preparing for stage performances, music examinations, auditions, recording sessions, or band participation receive focused coaching that emphasizes confidence, musical interpretation, and performance techniques. I regularly evaluate progress, celebrate achievements, and adjust lesson plans whenever new goals emerge. Every class concludes with personalized practice routines that encourage consistent improvement while keeping learning enjoyable.
