About Marissa
Hi! I'm Marissa, a credentialed California teacher and reading intervention specialist with experience supporting elementary and middle school students across a wide range of learning needs. Throughout my career, I have helped students strengthen their reading, writing, comprehension, and overall academic confidence using evidence-based instructional practices.
I am trained in structured literacy approaches, including the Science of Reading, and I believe every student can succeed when instruction is personalized, engaging, and supportive. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and goal-oriented, creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and growing their skills.

A typical session begins with a quick review of previously learned concepts, followed by targeted instruction, guided practice, and opportunities for independent application. I use ongoing assessment and progress monitoring to ensure students are making meaningful growth and to adjust instruction as needed.
I specialize in helping elementary and middle school students strengthen reading comprehension, phonics, fluency, writing, vocabulary, and overall academic confidence. I also support English learners and students who benefit from additional scaffolding and personalized instruction.
What sets me apart is my experience as both a classroom teacher and reading intervention specialist. I combine proven instructional methods with a patient, encouraging approach that helps students feel successful, engaged, and motivated to learn.
