About Ada
Cuban and living in Mexico for a few years, I have a degree in History with specialization in Latin America and in Social and Cultural studies. I can offer lessons about the region and help you to understand the culture of emerging countries. I have lived in Cuba all my life, and I can debate and analyze the Cuban situation first hand, with an objective vision of the country's cultural reality. This allows me to have a critical and analytical vision of social events and civil society. Professor of Spanish and Latin American cultures, I have a master's degree at the University of Barcelona in Spanish as a Foreign Language. I worked for more than 15 years in Banque Société Générale, and afterwards I developed activities in tourism in the region. I am also specialized in the Latin American and Mexican tourism sector. I can also help students to write articles, essays, correct them, do translations (in both directions, French-Spanish, or Spanish-French and English-Spanish, or Spanish-English), among other things. Do not hesitate to contact me to ask for services, I will answer you with a huge pleasure!

This course will offer an introduction to a range of Cuban films from different periods and styles, focusing on how filmmakers in Cuba (and their diasporas) have (re)negotiated their political conditions and production possibilities.
Cuba in the 1960s was the epicenter of the Latin American left. Students will examine a selection of films in order to explore issues relating to revolution and colonialism (and neocolonialism). The course will explore related concerns surrounding film.
We will discover the ICAIC, that was the first cultural body created in Cuba after the Revolution in accordance with Law 169, dated 24 March 1959. After its emblematic Revolution in 1959, Cuba was the inspiration and the center of production for dozens of filmmakers from all continents, principally those identified with new cinemas.
In this course we are going to review the role that Cuba has played not only in cinematographic production, but also documentaries, cartoons, soap operas, among other genres.
Along with examining Cuba’s past, the course could not deny the importance and relevance of Cuba’s political state and relations today.

Ada is an exceptional Spanish teacher who is both knowledgeable and patient. He makes lessons engaging with interesting and timely topics, and adapts to individual learning styles. I highly recommend working with Ada if you can! She makes Cuban Spanish easier.
I look forward to my Spanish classes with Ada because she makes learning a new language fun yet also makes sure I fully grasp a concept before moving on. I am grateful for Ada's kindness and patience, as I am still learning the basics of Spanish.
I've been meeting with Ada for a month now for Spanish tutoring, and I'm very happy with her tutoring work. When it comes to explaining grammar, she is very knowledgeable and clear. She's also great at making our sessions comfortable enough to do a lot of conversation practice. I feel like my Spanish is improving dramatically!
Ada has been extremely helpful and patient with me during our lessons. In just a short time I feel like I have learned so much. She really takes the time for you to understand it, and I’m excited to continue to take more lessons throughout the year. I would recommend Ada as a tutor to anyone who is looking to start learning Spanish, especially from a beginner level and for students having Spanish as their parents language!
Ada is a fabulous teacher. She makes lessons fun and relatable. She's really excellent teaching Spanish as inherited language, in my case my mom came from Cuba! I've recovered a part of my culture, my roots, that I thought completely lost! Tks Ada!
Ada is a fantastic Spanish teacher which I highly recommend. She is very patient and has tailored all my classes to my specific needs. Her teaching style is very effective and never dull. I can honestly state that my Spanish has greatly improved and I feel much more confident when speaking, reading and writing it. Thank you Ada!
I cannot sing Ada's praises enough. Not only have I improved in just the three weeks since I've started picking up my Spanish classes with her, but I feel so much more confident and admittedly a little less alone in our current times of uncertain quarantine and isolation. Ada is incredibly kind and patient, and each of her lessons leaves me driven to learn more and more. Remarkably her sessions are also personal, which really helps. She remembers small things like how my parents were in town, that I have siblings, my dog and cat, and that my own family is from Cuba. I just realized she also speaks French, and I hope that after this, I can get her to teach me that too. ¡Recomiendo a Ada para todos los que quieran aprender:)!
