I have been a qualified secondary English teacher for over 6 years, and a tutor for 8. I have obtained a leadership qualification (NPQLT) in order to lead a department or progress to senior leadership. My goal is to make lessons engaging, relevant and structured in a way that ensures sufficient progress. Lessons typically last for an hour and are split into four parts: 1. Retrieval practice - to assess what you already know 2. Introduction to a new concept, topic, question, etc 3. Modelling and independent practice (I do, we do, you do) 4. Consolidation and plenary. Lessons are differentiated based on ability, and support/challenge resources are provided to ensure students are meeting or exceeding their targets. This approach has proven successful as 98% of my students passed their GCSE exams with a Grade 5+, and 40% at Grade 7+.
