About Alexandra

I'm currently studying Scottish and English Law at the University of Aberdeen. I have been a tutor for 6 years and have worked with children of all sorts of levels, with ages ranging from Year 2 all the way through to Year 13. I have tutored online for the majority of the time but I have also done in-person tutoring

About the lesson

Usually, the first lesson entails an opportunity to understand a student's weaknesses, strengths and their learning styles. I'd use these to form a detailed lesson plan. For instance, visual learners may prefer the usage of representations using real-life examples. The general structure of a maths lesson would involve a quick starter activity. This is a great opportunity for students to use spaced repetition to ensure that whatever we cover weekly would be shortly recapped. Then we would move onto the main section. This would roughly entail me introducing the topic through a pre-made worked-out example before attempting some in front of the student. The aim for this is to show the general steps that are involved. Before a student can engage in independent tasks (consolidating the learning and attempting exam-level questions), I would always collaborate with them for a few questions until I'm certain that they have a good idea of the topic. This structure is flexible and I am happy to change it upon request and the needs of a student.
