About Theresa

I went to Leeds College of Music (Leeds Conservatoire) where my principal study was trumpet. I stayed in Leeds and studied to become a Secondary music teacher.

I have now been a Secondary School Music teacher for 16 years and been Head of Music for 8 years.

I am passionate about music education and truly believe anyone can get to where they want to be with a little guidance, support and hard work. I want to share my knowledge, skill and experience to help others become more advanced in their musical journey, wherever they are in it.

I can help to develop listening analysis skill, music specific essay writing, performance, composition, music theory and conducting.

I live in Leeds with my family and enjoy live music and getting out to explore and have fun.

About the lesson

After 16 years of teaching music I have learnt that every student learns differently. Throughout my experience, I have accumulated many teaching and learning methods to suit the needs of my students. I will help you understand topics in a way that will not feel overly challenging/overwhelming for you. I tend to break down knowledge and skills to suit all learners.
I will move at your pace and make sure you understand concepts along the way through regular questioning/show me tasks.
A typical lesson will be tailored to your requirements, starting with a quiz/retrieval activity, main task with knowledge checking throughout and a plenary/recap at the end.
I have knowledge of different GCSE specifications (including Eduqas and AQA) and AQA A-Level Music. I can teach music performance technique against a criteria, music composition, music theory, conducting, trumpet performance and listening/essay writing technique in preparation for GCSE and A-Level Music examinations.
