About Reign
My pedagogy is holistic and student-centered. I integrate somatic principles, anatomical awareness, improvisation, and movement analysis to deepen students’ understanding of how and why they move. My choreographic research directly informs this work. I engage diverse aesthetic traditions and dance history, challenging dominant narratives within concert dance. I am especially interested in Dance and Gender, opposing restrictive gender norms and promoting gender inclusivity, as well as Africanist dance aesthetics in contemporary performance. In both studio and discussion-based settings, students explore lineage, cultural context, and representation alongside embodied practice. They are asked to consider whose bodies and histories are centered in performance spaces and how their own work contributes to that conversation. This approach reflects my commitment to liberal arts education, where artistic practice is inseparable from critical thinking and cultural awareness.
Leadership is cultivated through reflection, dialogue, and creative collaboration. Students share ideas, give and receive feedback, and articulate their perspectives through both movement and language. I believe leadership begins with self-awareness and responsibility. When students actively reflect on their growth rather than passively experience a course, they begin to see themselves as contributors to a larger artistic community.

I can train students at any level and help you grow towards your goals! Through structured phrase work and guided exploration, students examine specificity, efficiency, and artistic voice. I act as a primary support system for structured exploration and feedback. My goal is for students to feel both challenged and affirmed so they can take risks, expand their perspectives, and fully express themselves through their work. Ultimately, I aim for students to leave my courses as reflective artists who trust their voices, are curious about the world we inhabit, and contribute meaningfully to all communities they enter.
