About Alexandra

Hello! I am a singing teacher with over 4 years of experience helping more than 200 students develop their voices. I came to singing teaching because I found that many students who could have become confident, expressive singers were being held back by technical issues that were never properly diagnosed and addressed — issues with breath, with tension, with registration — and I wanted to offer the kind of careful, individualized, technically rigorous instruction that would actually solve those problems rather than working around them. I teach classical, musical theater, jazz, and contemporary popular styles, and I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations as well as for professional auditions and performances. I work with students of all ages and levels, and I am particularly experienced in working with students who have developed unhelpful vocal habits — perhaps from years of singing in a rock band, or from untutored choral singing — and need to learn to use their voice in a more sustainable and expressive way without losing the qualities that make their sound distinctive. My students tell me that they feel genuinely heard in my lessons — not just listened to in terms of their technical production, but understood in terms of their musical personality, their goals, and what singing means to them personally. That understanding shapes everything I do with each individual student, and it is what makes my teaching feel genuinely supportive rather than generic.

About the lesson

I believe that almost everyone can sing — genuinely sing, with beauty and expression, not just produce notes in the right order — given patient, skilled instruction and enough practice. The natural singing voice is something most people have been trained out of by a combination of self-consciousness, unhelpful early feedback, and a cultural tendency to treat singing as a talent rather than a skill. My job, in many cases, is to undo that training and help students reconnect with the natural expressive voice they already have. Practically, this means I spend a great deal of time in the early stages of working with a student on relaxation and freedom — removing the tensions and self-monitoring habits that constrict the voice — before adding technical refinement on top of that liberated foundation. This approach produces a much more natural and expressive sound than technical instruction that begins with constraint rather than freedom. I work across all singing styles and levels. I am experienced teaching classical technique, musical theater, contemporary pop and rock, jazz, and folk styles, and I know how to adapt my technical teaching to the specific demands of each genre. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations with great thoroughness, and I provide detailed audition coaching for drama school, music college, and professional auditions.
