About Ivan

Hello everyone,

My name is Ivan, and I'm thrilled to be your Chinese teacher. My journey in both Mandarin and Cantonese began 8 years ago when I discovered my passion for teaching a language.

I pursued this passion through a Teach Chinese as a Second Language course at Beijing Language and Culture University in the year 2016, which has led me to various exciting opportunities, including teaching for international language companies.

But why do I teach? The answer is simple yet profound. Teaching offers me the unique opportunity to share my passion and knowledge with you, to ignite a similar interest and curiosity in your hearts. It's incredibly rewarding to see the moment of realization on a student's face when a concept clicks, or when they discover something they're passionate about. I believe that learning is a journey we embark on together, where questions are encouraged, mistakes are seen as stepping stones, and curiosity is the fuel that drives us forward.

In our classes, I aim to create an environment where everyone feels valued, understood, and challenged. We'll explore [mention the key topics you plan to cover], dive into hands-on projects, and engage in discussions that broaden our horizons.

Class Rules：

- Any inappropriate behavior or words in class will be permanent block by tutor.

- No religious/politics/sensitive discussion during class

Teaching Methodologies:

Understanding the students' learning goals.

Understanding the students' learning style.

Helping students to speak fluently without referring too much to the notes.

Incorporating dialogues, practical speaking, and the acquisition method in learning.

Using creative and interactive teaching with gamification to strengthen memory.

Helping students build their vocabulary list as a foundation.

Assisting students in imagining and connect the dots between words.

Aiding students in identifying tones, differentiating similar spellings, and mastering difficult spellings.

Conducting quizzes to recite vocabulary and fine-tune pronunciation.

Encouraging students to start making simple, short, frequently-used sentences and speaking them out.

Focusing on the parts of speech, sentence structure, and grammar that students struggle with, providing related real-life examples.

Taking notes of the important points and sharing them after class.

Encouraging students to speak during dialogue practice after mastering the concepts and language points.

For students who want to learn to read and write characters, I will explain the characters logically and systematically, and also provide necessary guidance for self-practice.

Flashcards with audio will be given as revision materials, and homework will be assigned accordingly.

Quick revision will be conducted at the beginning of every class.

Constantly reviewing students' progress and having discussions on how to improve lessons.
