About Holly

I have spent over three years helping violinists build a deep and highly complete relationship with their instrument. I hold a Graduate Diploma in Violin Pedagogy, which means I have studied the absolute best ways to teach the violin. In my lessons, I integrate music theory, aural skills, and sight reading directly into our weekly physical practice sessions.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology focuses on building a strong foundation for expressive bowing so you can play with real emotion. We will study essential bowing techniques, achieving a rich tone, dynamic control, and key bowing strokes like detache, spiccato, and legato. This physical approach is wonderful for people who love to sing in private or perform in local vocal ensembles.

I offer highly dedicated exercises to help you gain perfect control of your bow arm and transform your sound. For example, I recently worked with a choir singer who wanted to learn the violin but kept making a harsh scratching noise when they played. We worked on relaxing their right shoulder and practiced slow, steady downbows to match the breathing patterns they used in choir.

Within a few weeks, their arm tension completely disappeared, and they were producing a beautiful, warm sound. I am fully committed to supporting you in excelling so you can make your violin sound like a natural singing voice. We will practice simple, daily coordination drills to make your movements smooth and relaxed.
