About Cheryl
I am Cheryl Tang and I am a dedicated and experienced piano and violin teacher, now offering one-on-one piano/violin classes to aspiring musicians aged 6-18. I am also available to become a piano accompanist for virtual auditions/ recitals/ rehearsals.
I have been playing both instruments for 14 years and won numerous awards in overseas music competitions such as the Asia Open Piano Competition, and Manhattan International Young Artists Music Festival. I am currently a first violinist at the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and a choir accompanist at Dougherty Valley High School. I earned my music performance Associateship and Licentiate Diploma (equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Music) at Trinity College of Music, London, in 2019. I have been teaching students, aged 6-15, violin and piano for the past 4 years. Since 2017, I have also been accompanying students for music competitions, recitals, and exams. Recently in 2021, I was awarded the Livermore-Amador Symphony Association Arthur P. Barnes Scholarship.
If you are interested in learning a new instrument or getting help with orchestral repertoire, I am here to help! I would love to help you develop your full potential!

I am a dedicated and experienced piano and violin teacher, now offering one-on-one piano/violin classes to aspiring musicians aged 6-18. When teaching, I like to start the lesson off with some scales, then I will jump into the repertoire (I like to let students choose their own repertoire!). In between pieces, I will play some short games (for beginners-intermediate level players) such as note identification/simple music theory, so that they can develop a strong music foundation while having fun in class!
My previous/related experience:
In 2021, given her music experience in tutoring and performing, Cheryl was awarded the Livermore-Amador Symphony Association Arthur P. Barnes Scholarship. Cheryl has been playing both the piano and the violin for 14 years. Cheryl received the piano and the violin ABRSM (Royal Schools of Music, London, UK) distinction and a music performance Associateship and Licentiate Diploma at Trinity College of Music, London in 2019. Since 2012, Cheryl has been receiving numerous awards in overseas music competitions every year, such as the Asia Open Piano Competition, Manhattan International Young Artists Music Festival, and the Hong Kong Youth Barclampory Music Festival. With over 10 years of orchestral experience, Cheryl has been participating in different orchestras, such as the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO), the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong (MYO), Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong (PAO), the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music’s High Achiever Orchestra (ABRSM), and Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra (HKYSO). She was the concertmaster of the intermediate and advanced orchestra of MYO and her school’s symphony orchestra, as well as the founder and conductor of her school’s string orchestra (MCSSO). She led her orchestra in several concerts and competitions and was placed second out of seventeen other orchestras in Hong Kong’s Youth Music Interflow Competition.
Since 2017, Cheryl has been accompanying students in competitions (Pacific Musical Society and Foundation Annual Competition), recitals, and exams (Trinity College of London Diploma exams). Since 2019, Cheryl has been teaching young students aged 6-13 both piano and violin. She has helped raise over $1000 for organizations combating COVID-19. Moreover, she has been volunteering with the Tri-valley Youth Music Ensemble. She performs a wide range of music pieces for the elderly in senior housings with other enthusiastic musicians.
