About Helmer
Hello! My name is Helmer, and I'm an Angolan tutor.
I fell in love with English at 11 when I started learning it at school. This love grew when I took a university course, Performance in Translation, which consisted of translating a play that would then be performed at the Academic Festival. For most of my experience, I only tutored English. Still, my interactions with people from the countries I lived in (Swaziland, South Africa, Portugal, the UK, and the US) made me interested in teaching Portuguese, which I added to my portfolio to invite others to explore the Portuguese-speaking world. I have been tutoring languages for 6 years and I am in the process of becoming a certified translator and interpreter.

Frequent diagnostic assessments combined with frequent constructive criticism is the approach. From day one, the lessons must have clear goals and these are evaluated at the end of each lesson and the start of the following lesson. The mixture of instructional technologies and old-school pen-and-paper resources depends on each learner's age and digital literacy comfort. A learning plan is designed for each student to help track progress and determine specificities based on the tutee's more specific needs.
I am more inclined to work with Second-language English speakers of any age because that's where I have the most experience. However, I also enjoy working with native speakers under 25 years old and am always ready to embrace new experiences
