About Alex
I'm a professional drummer, percussionist, and drum teacher with over 15 years of playing and teaching experience. As an active performer, I regularly gig across Manchester at venues including Blues Kitchen, Albert's Schloss, and New Century Hall, bringing real-world experience into every lesson.
Alongside drum kit, I teach Latin American percussion; including congas and timbales, helping students develop a deeper understanding of rhythm, coordination, independence, technique and groove. Exploring different percussion traditions can make you a more versatile and well-rounded drummer, broadening your musical vocabulary and strengthening the skills that translate directly to the drum kit. Beyond performance, I'm passionate about sound design and experimental music, building custom instruments and incorporating modular synthesis into the drum kit. My creative practice encourages students to think beyond the instrument, exploring rhythm, sound, and musical expression in new and exciting ways.
I teach students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced players, with lessons tailored to individual goals. Whether you're learning for fun, preparing for grades, joining a band, or improving your live performance skills, I provide a supportive and engaging learning environment.

My lessons focus on building strong foundations through a detailed understanding of the fundamentals and mechanics of drumming. I believe solid technique provides the control, confidence, and freedom needed to become a more expressive musician. We work on posture, grip, movement, coordination, timing, dynamics, and efficient playing techniques to develop a strong and sustainable approach behind the kit.
Lessons are tailored to each student's ability, goals, and musical interests, whether you're a beginner building confidence, an intermediate player looking to progress, or an advanced drummer refining your skills. Alongside technical development, I explore a wide range of genres through drum kit and percussion, helping students expand their rhythmic vocabulary and musical awareness.
Recording and playback are also incorporated, allowing students to analyse their playing and develop a deeper understanding of timing, feel, and performance.
