About Martha
I am a recent First Class English Literature graduate of Durham University and have experience tutoring both English and French to A-level standard. Despite studying straight English at University, I took elective modules in French and spent part of my Gap Year after school working as an Au Pair in Paris so am confident and enthusiastic as a linguist too.
As a recent student myself, I am no stranger to the fact that studying towards exams can be tedious. That being said, I believe that academic success and enjoyment come hand in hand and I seek — as much as possible — to instil my love of learning in my tutees so that our sessions are not only productive and helpful but enjoyable too.
I am a bubbly and friendly person and I love teaching and developing a relationship with my tutees. I have excellent subject knowledge, and a knowledge of effective exam techniques, but my approach to tutoring centres on the relationships I build with students; I understand that each student is unique and believe in taking a tailored approach.
With experience as a pastoral mentor and a Welfare Officer at my college at University, I understand the toll that academic pressure can place on children and young adults. As a tutor, I aim to be a supportive figure and help my students achieve their academic goals whilst also foregrounding their wellbeing. In this vein, I am more than happy to offer guidance (where relevant) when it comes to the UCAS process and/ or to assist my students with their overall study skills and academic planning to help them manage their workloads!
