About Owen

I have been a freelance musician since 2018 when I played my first professional gig. Following this, I studied Music at the University of Leeds graduating in 2023. Piano Performance was a key component for my degree and this was also when I began teaching, giving lessons to fellow students.

I have a classical background also playing the violin and with an advanced knowledge of music theory. I am predominantly a contemporary keys player involved with a number of bands in which I also play guitar.

I am keen to inspire my students to fulfil their musical aspirations and enjoy making music as much as I do.

About the lesson

Hello, I'm Owen, a Piano teacher based in Bow, London, with availability for new students. Serving Tower Hamlets, Hackney and neighbouring boroughs, I cater to all ages and skill levels up to Grade 8.

Lessons at your home or mine (two minutes from Mile End tube).

My current student base includes kids from age 7 upwards, a smaller number of secondary school- aged pupils and three adults.

For young students, I use beginner piano course books like Piano Time and Chester's Piano Course until they are playing confidently with both hands and sight-reading notation.

My lessons also include improvisation skills, learning well-known tunes by ear and other creative exercises that help them foster a love of music.

For developing players, working towards graded exams is a great way to make goal-oriented progress. I mainly teach from the ABRSM exam syllabus though other options such as RockSchool can be great for different interests.

Exams aren't mandatory, of course, and my diverse musical training (BA Music Degree from the University of Leeds) gives me a wide scope of styles that I teach. Whether it’s improving your Bach, your Mozart and your sight-reading or getting on top of your chord knowledge to play rock and pop, my versatility allows me to cater for a range of musical interests and playing goals.

Two student concerts yearly provide a friendly performance platform.
