About Roan

Hi, I'm Roan. I'm an Economics with International Finance and Banking student. I've been tutoring since January 2023 and have taught over 1000 lessons in the past 2 years. I have vast experience supporting Maths, Economics, and Product Design students at both GCSE and A-level. I sat my own A level exams in 2022 and achieved AAA across Maths, Economics, and Product Design, despite being predicted CCB following my Year 12 mocks. My understanding of what it feels like to struggle, alongside my knowledge of revision methods and exam technique is crucial to helping other students overcome any challenges and get the results they deserve. At A-level, I have a proven track record of improving grades. All of my students have seen positive grade improvements, with some students even boosting grades from C's to A*'s, as shown in my reviews. My experience at GCSE is similar, all of last year’s students improved by at least 2 grades, with 70% achieving 8's or 9's. I'm relatable, calm, and friendly, and will always aim to make each lesson a place where my students will not only learn and improve but enjoy themselves and feel confident. I aim to not only boost the grades of my students, but to guide them into exams with the self-esteem, confidence, and motivation needed to achieve the top grades. I have a great deal of tutoring experience and will go the extra mile to help you achieve your goals, no matter how big they are!

About the lesson

Initially, we will discuss your specific struggles, needs, and objectives. Each session will then be adapted to meet these objectives, whether you're looking to master exam technique, work on difficult content, or looking for more well-rounded support, each session will meet your individual preferences. I try my best to make every hour as engaging as possible and encourage my students to contribute when they feel comfortable. Instead of simply using a PowerPoint slide or talking through content, I prefer to make full use of the interactive whiteboard and break content and questions down into smaller steps. This makes trickier concepts and questions seem less daunting, and encourages my students to have a go. Having a more hands-on approach encourages students to make mistakes, which are proven to be a crucial part of learning. In the build-up to your exams or mock exams, the lessons will gradually begin to become exam-focused, with plenty of exam-style practice to ensure each student is calm, confident, and prepared for any question they may get asked. I'll also bring in the tips, tricks, and techniques I've learnt to stand out to examiners and achieve top marks. I've also created a collection of cheat sheets, practice questions, revision notes, and model answers which I'm happy to deliver to students in between sessions, and will be happy to set additional tasks outside the lesson, and provide feedback either in the next lesson, or through a message.
