About Monica

I have always been stronger in my languages at school than I ever was in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. I received a distinction in English at the end of Matric.

I studied Elementary Education in Afrikaans, but learnt how to teach pupils language and studied how each pupil develops their own language skills.

I taught 4 high school students at a private school in Paarl, in English.

About the lesson

I am a 22-year-old, living in one of the prettiest cities in South Africa. English is one of our global languages, although many people in Paarl would disagree... Now we need to instil the love of English into our city.

My teaching method is practical and theoretical. Although I studied Elementary Education, I am also very in tune with teaching high school learners as well.

English is very diverse, it can be implemented in many ways; speaking, reading and writing. We make use of language when eg. we speak to our friends and families, when we read articles and posts online, reading newspapers and books, write messages via texting etc. Without full knowledge of the grammar and punctuation rules, we cannot expect to be fully articulate.

Do you know your 8 parts of speech? How about telling me what an adverb is? Can you identify the finite and the infinite verb in a sentence?
In my classes, you will learn how to identify and edit each part of speech to ultimately put sentences together.

Classes comprise of understanding the elements of speech and introducing new vocabulary through reading different books, analysing written texts and listening carefully to spoken speech.
