About Haley
What matters most to me is making students feel comfortable and confident. I’m currently studying Elementary Education at NIU with endorsements in middle school English and science, and I enjoy working with students who need extra support in reading, writing, or science.
I work with elementary (K–5) and middle school (6–8) students, especially those who benefit from a calm, encouraging learning environment. I have experience working as a substitute teacher in grades PK-12 in a variety of subjects. Additionally, I have experience working as a paraprofessional 1:1 in grades PK-4.

I’m a patient, supportive tutor who focuses on helping students truly understand what they’re learning, not just get through assignments. I break things down step by step, explain concepts in simple ways, and adjust my approach based on how each student learns best.
A typical 60-minute session is structured but flexible based on student needs:
* Check-in (5–10 min): We review current homework, classwork, or areas of confusion.
* Skill focus (15–20 min): We work on one key concept at a time (reading, writing, math, or science).
* Guided practice (20–25 min): I support the student step-by-step as they work through problems or reading passages.
* Independent practice (10–15 min): The student tries problems on their own while I offer support when needed.
* Wrap-up (5 min): We review progress and talk about what they did well and what to keep practicing.
I use simple, supportive strategies like:
* Breaking concepts into small, manageable steps
* “I do, we do, you do” modeling to build independence
* Asking guiding questions to strengthen thinking skills
* Using real-life examples and visuals when helpful
* Encouraging students to explain their thinking in their own words
