About Zoey

For 6 years, I have taught flute students from many different backgrounds—high school musicians preparing for auditions, college players working to improve technique, and elderly learners discovering music later in life. In total, I have taught between 150 and 200 students, each with their own story and learning style. My passion for education grows stronger with every lesson I teach. A key milestone in my teaching career has been helping students build confidence for public performances. Many of them began as shy beginners, but after months of practice and encouragement, they performed proudly in school concerts, recitals, and community events.

Moments like these remind me why I love tutoring: I get to witness students find confidence not only in music but in themselves. My teaching approach is to keep things simple, clear, and encouraging. Music should never feel impossible. I break down skills into easy steps and help students feel comfortable asking questions. I believe in guiding students at their own pace and celebrating progress, no matter how small. This helps create a learning environment where students feel supported and excited to grow. Teaching elderly students has also taught me the power of patience and joy. Many of them bring a deep appreciation for music and a strong desire to learn. Seeing their enthusiasm reminds me that learning is a lifelong journey. Every day, I work to bring meaningful, personalised, and inspiring flute lessons to my students. Teaching has shaped me into a more thoughtful musician and a more caring educator, and I look forward to helping new learners discover the beauty of music.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology for flute is centred on real-life examples, motivation, problem-solving, integrity, and flexibility. I believe music should be understandable and meaningful. That is why I use daily-life examples to explain breath support, timing, and expression. For instance, we may compare breath to blowing warm air on a window or create rhythms based on walking patterns. These simple connections help students learn faster. I try to keep every lesson motivating. I encourage students to set personal goals and help them stay positive even when challenges appear. Progress takes time, so I make sure students feel supported and inspired in every class.

Problem-solving is a skill I teach carefully. When a student faces difficulty—whether with tone, finger coordination, or rhythm—we examine the issue together. I guide them to find solutions through short exercises and focused practice. This helps them develop independent learning habits. Integrity is a core value in my classes. I always give honest, respectful feedback so students know exactly what to improve. I encourage responsibility and steady practice, helping students grow with confidence and fairness. I also believe in flexibility. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, interests, and pace. Some students learn visually, some learn by ear, and some learn by doing, so I adjust my methods for the best results. In addition to flute, I can teach related subjects such as music theory and reading notation. My goal is to create meaningful, enjoyable, and effective learning experiences.
