About Lanie
I am a US native who has visited 35 countries, and worked as a resident teacher in 5 of those. I love teaching and I love traveling! Cultural exchange is at the heart of it all.
I earned my BA in Journalism & Marketing at UNC (go Tarheels!) and my MA in Teaching (ESL) at University College London. Over the span of my career I've taught classes at language schools, academic institutions including U of Miami, Austin Community College, as well as private secondary schools. My work with businesses such as Shell, Texaco, and Xerox has involved training employees in client-focused English language skills. I additionally have a strong test-prep background having been a director of IELTS, TOEFL, and SAT. My level of studies and practical experience combine to make me the English language expert I am today! A big plus: my classes are fun, too!

I have taught in academic college classrooms, business seminars, tutoring, and online, all to a wide range of students (ages, proficiency levels, and purposes/goals.)
Lessons are designed based on student's language level and subject preferences. For example, a student wanting to improve their business English might prefer authentic class materials (articles, Ted Talks) whereas a student in academics might prefer grammar reviews, timed quizzes, writing workshops, etc. An individual wishing to improve their conversational English may like to engage in talking about current events, culture & travel, etc. My classes are for everybody (small groups too), at times convenient for them. I have over 20 years of teaching experience, so you will know you have an expert there for you every time!
