About Florence

I have been tutoring for five years in both class and individual settings. I am a student who was a teaching assistant once a week in a GCSE level English class of 24 students at a competitive private secondary school, mentored students one-on-one and helped establish and teach an English outreach program with primary school children - all of which I did for two years. I obtained A* in English at both GCSE and A level. I am now studying dual honours English and History of Art at the University of York where I am editor of the University Art History Society blog and a writer for the only student-led gallery in the UK - the Norman Rea Gallery. I have been shortlisted twice in the Yorkshire Young Writers Competition in both short story and poetry and have been shortlisted and commended for the Ruth Selina Poetry Prize.

About the lesson

I am happy to teach students up to third year university level. I take a more personalised approach and take each session individually - allowing the student to self identify weaknesses or topics they want to improve and help them achieve these goals. Being able to talk through a piece of text is often more valuable then only being able to write about it and aids understanding rather than just force feeding information - I want to help the student realise and debate different answers themselves and foster confidence.
